In 1977, the CD-R got an upgrade. This newer version was writable several times, by erasing the content and rewriting the CD-R. Hence the name “Compact Disc-ReWritable” or CD-RW. A little later, the mini CD-RW was launched, with a diameter of 0.31 inch (80 mm).
